About Me
Hello! I’m Cerys Parker, and my journey has been a beautiful dance between the world of science, the marine realm, and the corridors of education.
Holding a Bachelor in Zoology with Marine Zoology and a Masters in Wildlife Management (Conservation and Control), my academic pursuits were deeply rooted in the intricacies of life both on land and beneath the waves. Further enhancing my professional capacities, I acquired teaching certifications in Science and Computer Science, specialising in A’Level Biology and offering a comprehensive science education for lower years in the UK school system.
My professional life began at a Sea Life Centre as an aquarist. There, amongst the British marine life, I not only cared for these aquatic wonders but also recognised the profound interconnectedness of conservation and environmental education. I took to the stage, offering educational talks, unveiling the mysteries of the marine world, and fostering a deep-seated respect for our oceans and their inhabitants.
This foundational experience was a stepping stone that led me to the pristine beaches of Greece and Costa Rica. As a sea turtle biologist working with Loggerhead and Leatherback Sea Turtles. I became a guardian of the sands, ensuring the safety of nesting turtles from predators and poachers alike. The starlit shores and rainforest became my classroom as I introduced student groups from around the world to the wonders of sea turtle biology, conservation, and the rich ecosystem of the rainforests we were nestled within.
In 2011, my passion for education took a digital turn. I launched Rainy Day Mum a website brimming with Art, Craft, and Educational ideas – a treasure trove for home educators, homeschoolers, teachers, and parents alike.
Rainy Day Homeschooling emerged more recently from my experiences of home-educating my children, highlighting the immense need for accessible, hands-on science activities that every household could embrace.
Now, living on the beautiful coast of England with my two teenage children, husband and our spirited dog, Freddie, my days are coloured with more than just academic and professional pursuits. A passionate crafter, avid gardener, and enthusiastic baker, I cherish the moments spent creating, nurturing, and indulging in the simple pleasures of life.
Through every phase, my mission has been steadfast – to weave science, education, and conservation into a tapestry of knowledge and passion. I invite you to join me in this quest, as we continue to explore, learn, and nurture our innate curiosity about the world.
